Penelope Baddeley, journalist with Derbyshire Life, recently visited us at to find out about the five year journey we have been on restoring Darley House and our future plans.
“Penelope Baddeley meets Lucy and Alex Arterton whose sensitive restoration of the gardens and interiors of Darley House has unveiled specimen plants dating back to Paxton and a host of exciting period features.”
We gave Penny a guided tour of the house and gardens and regaled her with stories of the last five years and more….Going back into the history of the house including Joseph Paxton buying the house for his daughter and landscaping the gardens and our recent discovery, from census trawling, that Sir Richard Copley Christie, philanthropist and bibliophile, had also lived at the house.
